Locum Consultant in Palliative Medicine
Hours:  Part time/full time

An opportunity has arisen at Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice for a 6 month locum appointment to a Consultant in Palliative Medicine post pending recruitment to a substantive post whilst the local health care provision is being reconfigured.

Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice has a 19-bedded in-patient unit and a day hospice based on the Hospice site at Bostall Hill. The Hospice also delivers an specialist outreach service and care homes service to people in the London boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley (population of approximately 450,000), a hospital service at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich and an innovative integrated care service for people in the last year of life in Greenwich borough.

The successful applicant will join the members of the medical team (a consultant, an associate specialist, 2 staff grades and a GP trainee) to deliver medical input into the Hospices services. The job plan will be negotiated dependent on the skills and interest of the candidate and the needs of the service. The Hospice offers an out of hours on call service shared with other local specialist providers in which the successful applicant will take part.

Bank Healthcare Assistants
Salary:  Agenda for Change Band 3

We are pleased to be advertising opportunities for Bank Health Care Assistants to join the hospice bank register.

The HCA will work as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering care in the Community in
patients’ homes as well as on both our Inpatients’ and Day Care Units as assessed by the registered nurses. 

The successful candidates will hold an NVQ 3 in Health/Social care or equivalent, alongside relevant care experience, and will demonstrate a commitment to providing a high standard of care to patients. 

With a sound understanding of health and safety and infection control, candidates will
demonstrate excellent communication skills and an ability to meet a patients physical, social and psychological needs appropriately as they approach end of life.

Bank Staff Nurses
Salary: Agenda for Change Band 5

We are seeking Registered Nurses who are interested in joining the Hospice Bank Register.  You will be passionate about nursing, and want to make a difference to patients, to join the multi-disciplinary team in both the Inpatient and Day Care units of the Hospice.

Sound communication and interpersonal skills are essential in this post, as is the ability to work using your own initiative in prioritising the clinical case load, providing clear instruction and support to the team of HCA’s and student nurses on placement within the unit.

A reflective practitioner with a commitment to the provision of excellent specialist palliative care, this post offers the opportunity to develop your skills within a specialist setting.

The Hospice is committed to the development and education of our staff and has excellent educational links with Higher Education institutions in the local area alongside internal training provision.

Bank Catering Assistants
Salary:  Agenda for Change band 2
Salary Range: £8.54 to £10.60 per hour

We are pleased to advertise ‘Bank’ opportunities to join the Catering Team at the Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice, providing a catering service to Patients, Staff and Users of the Hospice as follows:

Working with the catering team at the Hospice, this post is responsible for assisting our Chef in the provision of catering for Patients, Staff and Users of the Hospice in Abbey Wood ‘as and when’ the hospice requires it.

Previous experience of working within food preparation is advantageous for this post. 

Maintenance of high standards of Food Hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen is critical in this post, and a Food Hygiene Certificate, is essential on application.

Bank Clinical Nurse Specialist in Palliative Care
Salary:  Agenda for Change Band 7
Working on an ‘As & When Basis’

We are seeking a registered nurse, who has significant experience of working in palliative care, who is a reflective practitioner with sound communication and interpersonal skills. You will need to be able to work on your own initiative, as well as integrating successfully with the Team.

You must be a car driver/owner and be available for duties at weekends and for the overnight on call advisory service, on a rota basis.

The Hospice is committed to the development and education of all its staff, so there are excellent opportunities for professional development. We have educational links with Higher Education institutions in the local area and we offer clinical supervision.

Membership of the NHS pension scheme is available for existing members.
