Staff from Natwest Private Banking support the Hospice
10 June 2011
As part of their day of volunteering in the local community, the 14-strong team from NatWest planted shrubs, bedding plants and a tree in the Hospice grounds. The staff also presented a cheque for £1,190 to boost essential funds to Barbara Oakes, Volunteers' Manager who oversaw the day.
Manjula Rabadia, Senior Private Banking Manager who helped to organise the day said: “We thoroughly enjoyed the challenge to create the extra parking space and complete the gardening tasks. We started at 10 am and stayed until 6.30 pm - we were determined to finish the job, but at the end of the day you could really see the difference. We’re delighted with the end result.”
The group were treated to a fun warm-up session by Ellen Tumulty, Sister on the Hospice inpatient unit and then got down to some serious digging, tidying and pruning to clear the way for the extra disabled parking spaces, and also dug over borders and added colour by planting shrubs and hanging baskets.
Richard Webb, Area Manager said: “The day was very rewarding. It gave my team a real sense of pride and satisfaction. It was a really positive experience and we were delighted to be a part of it.”
Barbara Oakes, Hospice Volunteers' Manager said: “We always welcome teams from the local community or businesses wanting to take part in a community or team challenge day in the Hospice grounds. Big groups, like that from Natwest Private Banking SE London & Kent made a real impact on several areas of the grounds in just one day. This also makes the task of on-going maintenance much more manageable for our regular team of volunteer gardeners.”
