Open Garden raises over £2,000
07 August 2011
The popular fundraising afternoon was held on Parsonage Lane, Sidcup, and over 200 supporters attended.
The garden was open for just three hours and attended by the Mayor of Bexley, Cllr Ray Sams and his wife and were joined by many members of the public raising funds through a raffle, stalls, refreshments and an admission fee.
Diane Cheevers, Lymphoedema Specialist Lead Nurse at the Hospice said: “We’re really pleased with the amount raised. An earlier Open Garden in Dartford raised over £1,500 for the service and we’ve raised £3,950 this year already with more fundraising events to come, including a Black Tie event on 10th December at Sidcup Recreation Club.”
Meanwhile, Rob Davies (54), and stepson Tom Hopkins (22) from Belvedere cycled 60 miles in the Great Kent Bike Ride on Sunday, 12 June to raise £700.
Tom said he chose to support CAMEL because his Mum, Deborah Hopkins-Davies, has lymphoedema.
“I see how the condition affects everyday life,” said Tom. “The cycle gave me the opportunity to raise some money to provide care and support for those suffering with this condition.”
“It’s great to have the support of so many local people,” said Diane. “The money raised from all this activity helps fund a part-time Lymphoedema Nurse to the Service.”
The Lymphoedema Service at the Hospice provides treatment, advice, support and information to patients and their families who have developed or who are at risk of developing lymphoedema.
