Skydive for the Hospice
20 August 2011
... jumped out of a plane from 12,000 feet in a sponsored skydive to raise funds for the Hospice.
Consultants, Dr Brendan O’Neill and Dr Andrew Tysoe-Calnon undertook this daring manoeuvre at Headcorn Airfield near Maidstone.
Dr O’Neill, who has worked at the hospice for eight years, said that although he was looking forward to the skydive he was relieved when his feet touched the ground at the end of the jump.
“I’ve never done anything like this before, the weather was great and the views on the way down utterly eclipse anything you see from the window of a 747,” said Brendan. “My colleague, Andrew, is not a fan of heights so this was a particular achievement for him.”
“It was an incredible experience and we raised over £2,000 between us which was a fantastic achievement.”
Sally Bateson, Director of Fundraising at the Hospice, said: “We need to raise over £3.5million every year from local people taking part in activities like this – it’s great to see two of our doctors taking the leap for the Hospice!”
