Cancer Voices in Partnership Greenwich and Bexley
This is a group of local people affected by cancer in different ways who work alongside health care professionals to make improvements to cancer care.
Cancer Voices are part of the NHS South East London Cancer Network which works with all NHS and voluntary sector organisations (hospitals, GPs and hospices etc.) to improve the quality of care for people affected by cancer. Working together, listening and acting on views and experiences of people affected by cancer is an essential part of improving cancer care in South East London.
The group gets involved in lots of practical and powerful projects. For example they have been involved in:
- Making a DVD ‘Communicating Significant News’ using their experiences to improve doctor and nurse training
- A survey to assess the financial cost of cancer which led to setting up Citizen Advice Bureau services in hospital for cancer patients
- Making chemotherapy suites at Guy’s Hospital more comfortable for patients
- Advising on improving the patients waiting areas at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich
- The planning of a new radiotherapy service for the South London Healthcare NHS Trust to improve access to radiotherapy for patients in Greenwich, Bexley and Bromley
- A project to develop services which can deliver some chemotherapy closer to home.
Cancer Voices meet every couple of months, usually on a Saturday at Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice.
New members are always welcome so if you would like to find out more please contact either:
