Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones is a drop-in service who meet on the first and third Friday of every month at the Hospice and aims to support you through a turbulent time in your life. It offers support for those experiencing a life-limiting illness, their partners,  family, carers, friends and those recently bereaved.

Here you will be able to share your experiences, make new friends and come to terms with the events that have changed your life.  With additional support you may begin to face the future by using the service as a ‘Stepping Stone’ back into daily life.

It is staffed by members of the Rehabilitation Team, and a group of dedicated volunteers. Refreshments and a sandwich lunch are served during the course of the day at a small cost.

Positive Living Rehab Group

This group offers the opportunity to explore areas of life where you can maintain or improve your ability e.g.

  • activities of daily living
  • energy conservation
  • anxiety management / relaxation
  • breathlessness management
  • exercise

In addition to this you can pamper yourself with a range of complementary therapies at very modest rates which include massage, reflexology, Reiki and relaxation techniques.  Advice can also be given on diet, nutrition, skin care, make up, hair, nails and handcare.

During this time you may find everyday paperwork to be difficult for you.  If you need help, our Helping Hands service is available to you.  The team can help you with:

  • Advice and assistance on financial matters and claiming benefits
  • Advice on a range of practical matters such as completing forms and writing letters
  • Procedures following bereavement
  • Arranging appointments to visit a legal advisor or solicitor
