Every year the Hospice offers care and support through a wide range of services to people with a life-limiting illness - that might be a member of your family.
We need almost £6 million per year to run our essential services, and your volunteering support is as valuable to us as donations of money
Our volunteers make a big difference to the quality of life of people in the community who are living with a life-limiting illness. We have all sorts of volunteer roles available; if you have a skill we can use it.
Currently we have the following volunteering opportunities:
- Administration and clerical (office experience and good aptitude required). Contact the Volunteers’ Department on 020 8320 5812 for details.
- Lottery Promoters (Hospice Lottery) at community events and in our shops. Contact the Lottery Manager on 020 8319 9240 for details.
- Receptionists - evenings 5-8pm, weekends and some weekday slots available. Contact the Volunteers’ Department on 020 8320 5812 for details.
- Ebay sales / packers in Bellegrove Road, Welling. Contact the Retail Manager on 020 8319 9237 for details.
- Portable Appliance Testing and Shop Assistants with electrical equipment expertise. Contact the PAT Shop Manager on 020 8301 5032 for details.
- Donated goods sorters at the Distribution Centre at Bellegrove Parade, Welling. Contact the Distribution Manager on 020 8319 9232 for details.
- Shop Assistants throughout our shop network. Various shifts but especially Saturdays. Call into your nearest shop and speak to the Manager for details.
- Open Gardens team need people with excellent organisational skills and be a good team player mostly on Sundays throughout the summer. Contact the Fundraising Coordinator on 020 8319 9236 for details.
- Events Support team - marshalling, running stalls, setting up and clearing down etc. usually in the evenings and at weekends. Contact the Community Fundraiser on 020 8319 9235 for details.
- Photographer for events / publicity in the community and the Hospice. Contact the Fundraising Coordinator on 020 8319 9236 for details.
- Drivers over 21 with full licence to drive minibus/van at Bellegrove Parade, Welling and in the community on weekdays and some weekends. Contact the Distribution Centre Manager on 020 8319 9232 for details.
- Drivers over 21 with full licence, suitable insurance and own car for patient transport. Mornings and afternoons on Mondays, Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Call the Transport Coordinator on 020 8312 2244 for details.
- Retail Maintenance Support in our charity shops and offices in Welling. Contact the Deputy Retail Manager on 020 8319 9231 for details.
- Gardens and maintenance team in the Hospice. Contact the Facilities Manager on 020 8320 5810 for details.
- Painters and decoraters. Ad hoc volunteers with professional experience in painting and decorating. To volunteer in the Hospice and in our shops. Contact the Facilities Manager on 020 8320 5810 for details.
- Flower Care team in the inpatient and public areas at the Hospice. Contact the Volunteers’ Department on 020 8320 5812 for details.
- Drinks Trolley Servers and general patient/visitor support at the Hospice. Contact the Volunteers’ Department on 020 8320 5812 for details.
- Café Assistants / bakers at the Hospice. Contact the Head Chef on 020 8320 5814 for details.
- Kitchen Assistants (some catering experience / aptitude required) at the Hospice. Contact the Head Chef on 020 8320 5814 for details.
- Therapists (fully qualified and insured) to provide complementary therapies including massage, Reike, reflexology, aromatherapy etc. in the Hospice and our Day Care facility. Contact the Rehabilitation Lead Nurse on 020 8320 5808 for details.
In recognition of the dedicated support that volunteers offer to enhance Hospice services, we ensure that all volunteers are kept informed through:
- Two annual 'Volunteer Appreciation' events - one around Christmas time and one in the summer linked to National Volunteers' Week.
- Long Service badges that are awarded at 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years of voluntary commitment.
- Invitation to the Hospice Annual Meeting and updates on other Hospice events and developments.
- A quarterly Volunteers' Bulletin called ‘The Hospice Hailer’ - download the current issue.
