Tracey will be taking part in this year’s Hospice Colour Run Party on 24 September in Dansons Park in memory of her dad Graham. She spoke to us about what inspired her to take on the colourful challenge this year.

Graham came under the care of the hospice at the end of 2021, and had chosen to be cared for at home where he could be with his loved ones; and he was until he passed away in February 2022.

Tracey explained her reasons for supporting the hospice: “Dad was larger than life, loved a joke, laughing and having fun. He loved golf, and was a past captain at Shooters Hill Golf Club. He was also a big reader, was a huge Batman fan and Charlton FC supporter.

"When he was referred to the hospice, they came and talked to the family and made sure that everything was put in place for him to be comfortable and to support him to die at home. They were so helpful and I was able to advocate for him and they listened and were really accommodating when we talked about what he needed and what his and mum’s wishes were.

“We were given a hospital bed and were able to rearrange the bedroom so that he was next to mum, and that made life so much easier.”

Not just a run

“I’ll be taking part in the Colour Run Party with my husband, in memory of my dad. Dad loved colour! If there was ever a choice between wearing a plain shirt or a bright one, he’d always be bright! So this is a really fitting way to honour his memory.

“Training is going well. I’m doing lots of little walks to prepare. It’s been a long time since I’ve done anything like this, but it sounds like so much fun – it’s not just a run!”

Tracey added “We may be walking this depending on my knee but even if I have to crawl we will raise money for these angels. They took the most amazing care of Dad and were there when we really needed them, giving us the opportunity to have Dad stay at home but still receive the care he did was something that meant the world to our family.  The nursing staff are just amazing.  Nothing is too much bother for them.”

Thank you so much for your support Tracey and good luck at the Hospice Colour Run Party!
