Hospice supporter Eileen Noble will be taking part in her third marathon to raise funds for Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice on Sunday 22 April.

Eileen, 83, took up running at 53 and will be oldest woman taking part in the Virgin London Marathon. She has finished in third place for her age group, women over-70, in two previous Virgin London Marathons.

‘I’ve taken part in 16 London marathons and the Lochaber Marathon, so this one will be my 18th marathon,’ Eileen said. ‘I like to support a local charity because my sponsors are all friends, family, and local church members and they all appreciate the value of the Hospice.’

Eileen, from Bexleyheath, started training for the Virgin London Marathon quite late because she only learned she had a place in December 2017 – and Christmas and a trip to Australia interrupted her training schedule.

‘My training’s gone well. I’m a member of Bexley AC but getting to the club is tricky now because I don’t drive anymore. But I have lots of friends who are members or ex-members of Bexley AC and I run with them whenever possible.

‘Several of my running friends will be marshalling along the route or watching so I’ll be looking out for them. And my daughter will be waiting for me at the finish line.’
