Our lovely route marshals.

How many people do you need to run a successful Hospice Mini Marathon?

Our much loved Hospice Mini Marathon event took place on Sunday 8 May in Royal Greenwich Park and it was such an amazing day. We certainly enjoyed welcoming over 850  children and their families (and even their four-legged friends!) and cheering them on as they  ran the 2.62 mile route for that special someone, or just to support their local hospice to carry on the fantastic care and support our hospice gives to the community.

There was amazing support on the day from our dedicated team of hospice volunteers and members of the community who all got involved to help make this event special for all the children who had trained so hard for this day!

Our volunteers stepped up to do so much from running the T-shirt collection points to helping out on the information help points to make sure all questions and enquiries were answered.

Our event sponsor, JLL Greenwich came through with their amazing support. They had teams on two of our water stations and at the start and finish points. JLL Greenwich also organised a fancy dress competition for the little ones to get involved in. This added extra excitement to the day and was lovely to see the children take part and run as their favourite characters.

A special mention goes to Bayanix Ltd who very kindly supported us with van drivers to help move all the equipment to the park and supplied the barriers for our start and finish areas.

Showtime Photo Booth were very generous in supplying their Open Air Photo Booth, so that we could capture some memorable pictures for the families and children who took part.

Thank you to the local community!

Police Cadets from Greenwich and Lewisham helped marshal the route and the Army Cadets from Bexley and Bromley were there to steward the event and make sure everything was running smoothly, as well as helping to give out the event goody bags to all the children and finally, helped clear down at the end.

GoodGym Greenwich was also such a great help as they helped set up the whole event on the day and assisted with stewarding throughout the day.

The Pearly Kings and Queens of Greenwich and Woolwich were out in their finery and counted down and waved the flag at the starting line as well as giving out the medals to all the participants at the finish line.

Thank you to local businesses!

A big thank you too, to Decathlon Greenwich for providing some really enjoyable sport activities throughout the day for the children to take part in. Ellie Brown with some of her Greenwich Runners provided a quick warm up for the children to prepare them for their run.

The Rock Choir and the Fusion Cheerleaders were in fine voice and helped support our event by putting on some fantastic performances throughout the day to provide entertainment and keep everyone in high spirits up.

Without all of this wonderful help, there wouldn’t have been an event. And without the amazing support of over 850 children who laced up their trainers and took on the challenge of running 2.62miles, there wouldn’t be a Hospice Mini Marathon.

Overall it was such a fantastic day! You can’t beat that feeling of coming together with hundreds of others, and doing something really special to make a difference and we cannot wait for the next one!

We hope to be back and hope to see you back in Royal Greenwich Park in 2023.

The whole team at Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice would again like to say a big thank you to everyone and our amazing community for coming together to make this event happen without you we wouldn’t be able to raise the money for the hospice so we can carry on providing the best care for your loved ones and in our community.
