Our Day Hospice provides a social and welcoming environment for people with terminal illnesses. Our aim is to support, enable, and empower people to maintain the best quality of life and to continue to lead an active and independent life for as long as possible.
What can I expect?
The day usually starts at 10am and finishes around 3pm. When you arrive, our volunteers will greet you and get you settled with a hot or cold drink. Refreshments are offered throughout the day and a choice of lunch is provided from our varied menu. If required, our chef can cater for special diets and cultural needs; we are sure there will be something you will enjoy. For people who’d like to make a contribution towards the cost of lunch, we suggest a minimum donation of £5.
When you attend the Day Hospice, a trained nurse will assess your needs and agree a personalised plan with you. This will include when you’re able to attend and which services and groups you would like to access. This will be reviewed every 12 weeks to ensure you are getting the most out of the services and care available.
Day Hospice activities
We offer a range of activities which include:
- Complementary therapy
- Seated exercise
- Creative therapies eg pottery, art and feltmaking
The Day Hospice is a lively, cheerful and welcoming environment where you’ll be treated as an individual and offered care tailored to your specific needs. People often think it'll be a depressing place - with everyone having a terminal illness. Nothing could be further from the truth! Visitors are surprised to see what a fun, jolly, and relaxed place the Day Hospice is.
