The Hospice Mini Marathon is an event like no other. Where else would you see hundreds of children, many in fancy dress, running 2.62miles to raise money for special hospice care?

Starting from the iconic London Marathon Bandstand at the top of Royal Greenwich Park, the Hospice Mini Marathon sees children aged between 5 and 16 years take on their own 2.62mile challenge. Add to this, live performances from the Rock Choir, a DJ, a fun and energetic warm up and other great activities, the Hospice Mini Marathon is a truly special event.

The Hospice Mini Marathon is organised by Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice so that families in our community can receive free compassionate and special hospice care. Families like Emma’s.

Emma’s story

Emma was a young mother our Hospice Community Team supported last year. Emma had cancer and was unlikely to live until Christmas. Our Community Team wanted to create hope for Emma’s family so that her two small children had some loving and happy memories with their mum.

Our Hospice Community Team set about bringing Christmas forward by organising Christmas treats with decorations and food to be delivered to the house. Emma’s family were able to have time together and enjoy a very special family Christmas a month early. The sponsorship you raise will help the Hospice to reach our target of raising £50,000 so that more families in our community can receive this special kind of care in their own homes, surrounded by the people they love making those precious memories.

Changes to this year’s Hospice Mini Marathon

This year to help keep you and your child as safe as possible, we are offering two start times; 9.30am and 11.00am. You can pick your preferred start time when you register (if your child is taking part with friends/family then make sure you register for the same time slot!). Register your child here

Please note: If your child is aged between 5 and 7 years olds they will need to be accompanied on the route by an adult.

If national restrictions are in place in September this will become a virtual event using our new interactive platform so we do hope you will support us still. Once you’ve signed up, keep an eye on your inbox for email updates between now and Mini Marathon day.

Can’t make Sunday 19 September?

If your child can’t make Sunday 19 because they are playing football, rugby, cricket, or have church or another commitment then don’t worry – they can take part virtually!

Our interactive platform will allow them to track their miles on a day that suits them better. Once they have hit 2.62 miles and a £50 fundraising target we will post them a Hospice Mini Marathon medal to show off at school with pride!

If you’d like to enter your child as a virtual runner, please click here
