Maintenance Support Volunteer

Location:     Hospice and Retail Outlets

Reports to:   Estates Manager

Commitment:      1 day per week

Outline

Volunteers are needed to support the team with the maintenance and upkeep of Hospice buildings – based at the Hospice itself but also supporting the warehouse and retail outlets.  In addition to basic DIY volunteers will also support the team during the building work to ensure that visitors, patients, staff and volunteers can access and use the building safely.

Main roles and responsibilities

  • Assist with painting and decorating
  • Distribute incoming supplies from reception to other departments
  • Assist with general maintenance tasks
  • Set up and clear rooms needed for functions
  • Marshalling the car park and other tasks linked to the building work

Useful skills and experience

  • Basic painting and decorating skills
  • Basic DIY skills
  • Ability to lift and carry safely large items
  • Good team working skills
  • Good communication skills

  • Reasonable travel expenses to and from the hospice will be reimbursed
  • Lunch or dinner up to a maximum value of £3.50 will be provided from the Hospice kitchen for eligible volunteers (when working at least 5 hours in one day)

Other requirements

  • An enhanced Disclosure and Barring application for Vulnerable Adults is required for this role
